Botox injections have been safely and successfully used for over a decade to combat many muscle and eye disorders. Thousands of Botox treatments are performed each year for conditions ranging from muscle spasms to crossed eyes. It was during these routine procedures that Botox was first found to be beneficial in the therapy of active wrinkles. BOTOX TREATMENT Used to eradicate active facial lines and wrinkles, Botox Treatments proved a non-surgical alternative in the fight against the visible signs of aging. What are "active wrinkles"? These are due to muscle action on your face and neck. Commonly referred to as "laugh lines", "frown or worry lines", and "crow's feet", active wrinkles are caused by years of facial expressions and by the natural aging process. These types of wrinkles appear as our facial muscles contract while we laugh, smile, frown, or show worry. The presence of active wrinkles can add years to your appearance, often making us look tired or worried when we are not. With the introduction of Botox to the field of cosmetic dermatologic surgery, the therapy of these types of wrinkles is achievable via a simple, non-surgical procedure. Impressive results include the realization of smooth skin and a younger looking appearance in a matter of days. These treatments can be used on the sagging and prominent neck muscles, the frown lines between the eyes, forehead lines, muscle lines in the temples, and on crow's feet. SMOOTHS ACTIVE WRINKLES Directed at these underlying facial muscles, Botox is then placed under the skin to smooth these lines and wrinkles. Because it relaxes the muscles that cause active wrinkles, Botox also works to prevent new lines from forming. Although Botox is effective in treating dynamic wrinkles (lines that come and go as we laugh, smile or frown) it does not eliminate "passive wrinkles". Passive wrinkles are those lines due to aging or sun damage that are always present. Examples include fine lines on the cheeks, lines around the lips, lines on the chin, and lines from the sun. To erase these wrinkles derived from age, please ask about our range of facial beautification procedures including our new advanced laser peel. The deep lines between the nose and corner of the mouth (nasolabial folds) are generally best treated with collagen. We use your own collagen in strips taken from beneath the skin behind your ear in a process called Dermal Grafting. The new ultrapulsed laser peel can achieve beautiful results with signs of aging, pigmentation, and fine facial lines as well. This procedure is also performed in the office with mild sedation and local anesthesia. SIMPLE AND SAFE Gentle & Quick Botox is a relatively simple procedure performed right here in our offices. Only a minimal amount of liquid is used in targeted facial areas and there is generally little discomfort. No sedation or local anesthetic is required, so you are able to return to work or continue with all of your usual activities directly after your treatment. Non-Surgical Alternative Botox is often the procedure of choice because it is a non-surgical approach that, like surgery, treats the underlying cause of active wrinkles as well as the effects. Gratifying Results If dynamic wrinkles are making you look older than you should, Botox can give you the youthful appearance you desire. Its effects last for approximately four to six months. Therefore, a few repeated treatments may be required. However, clinical trials suggest that the duration of benefits may increase with each procedure. With this advanced treatment, you are able to obstruct the aging process by smoothing active wrinkles and attempting to prevent new ones from forming. James M.
